Q – What is an Interlibrary Loan?
A – If you can’t find the item you are looking for in our library or in the NExpress catalog, we can look in the Kansas Library Catalog to see if any libraries in the state of Kansas has what you need.
Q – What type of materials may I borrow?
A– 1) Adult and childrens books (fiction & non-fiction)
2) DVD movies and series
3) Audiobooks
4) Periodical articles
5) Census records and newspaper on microfilm
Q – What may NOT be borrowed through Interlibrary Loans?
A- 1) Reference materials
2) Rare, unique or valuable materials
3) Complete issues of periodicals
4) Books the Seneca Free Library owns, unless they are missing
Q – What if the material I want is only available out-of-state?
A – Seneca Free Library does not normally search for materials outside the state of Kansas unless there is a specific request made by a patron.
Q – How do I request materials?
A – 1) Stop by or call the library with details about the item you need.
2) For articles, you must provide a complete periodical title, date, volume and issue number, article title, author, and the pages needed.
3) You must have a current Seneca Free Library card in good standing.
Q – What is the cost of this service?
A – There is no charge for Interlibrary Loan materials as long as the request is able to be filled in state.
Q – How long does it take to get materials?
A – Most requests are filled in one or two weeks. The availability of materials from the lending library may cause delays.
Q – How am I notified when the materials arrive?
A – If the material arrives from a NEKLS provider library, the system will send a text or email to you depending on the notification settings chosen in your patron account. Items arriving from a non-NEKLS library or for patrons not participating in text or email notifications, you will be notified by phone when your material arrives.
Q – How long may I keep the material?
A – Materials are typically due within two weeks of checkout with an option for one renewal, though certain limitations may apply. Requests to renew the checkout may be denied based on newness of the material or a need to fill other holds. Items not picked up within a week of contact on arrival will be returned to the lending library.
Q – How do copyright regulations apply?
A – Periodical article requests must comply with copyright regulations. {Title 17 of the U.S. Code}
Q – Where to I return the materials?
A – Please return Interlibrary Loans to the main desk or through the outside book drop.
