September STEM Helped Students Find Direction
Which way is up? Learning to follow directions using a compass was great fun and a challenge, especially since we began working with homemade compasses. The magnets we used to magnetize our pins were not strong enough to make long lasting compasses but most of us experienced a degree of successs.
Next we filled out some quick worksheets using cardinal and ordinal directions. When these sheets were finished and material understood we tested our knowledge using a life size grid on the floor in the community room. Next , the treasure hunt!
The treasure hunt was made up of a series of clues to be found within the stacks. Cardinal and ordinal points as well as bearings on a compass were used to navigate the clues. When each group successfully reached the end of the hunt they were greeted with smiles, candy and a job well done.
We were having so much fun in the Library, we forgot about taking more pictures!!
